CSOs and Media should work together for Strengthening Democracy

GoGo Foundation, under Civil Society: Mutual Accountability Project (CS:MAP), with financial support from FHI/USAID organized dialogue on ‘CSOs and Media Collaboration for Enabling Environment’ on June 16, 2017 in Kathmandu.

 News Chief of Kantipur Daily Mr Hari Bahadur Thapa and Former Chief Commissioner Mr Surya Nath Upadhyay made presentation on the respective role of CSOs and media and why their collaboration is needed for strengthening democracy and rule of law. Commenting on the presentation, civil society activist and senior journalist Mr Kanak Mani Dixit highlighted the need for collaboration between CSOs and media to safeguard democracy in the country. Chief of Party of CS:MAP Mr Bishnu Sapkota spoke on why media and CSOs are important in a democracy.”Media and CSOs enrich and complement each other in democracy”, said Surya Nath Upadhyay. Reflecting on the role of media, Hari Bahadur Thapa said “Media and CSOs should have critical collaboration in democracy system”. President of Federation of Nepalese Journalists Dr Mahendra Bista, journalist Bijaya Poudel, Rajjee Dahal including representatives from lawyer community, media and civil society organizations had actively participated in the program. Out of 50participants,9 were female and 41were male.
